Like a remote and lonely island
Cheongryeongpo
(San 67-1, Gwangcheon-ri, Nam-myeon, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do)
This was the place where King Danjong exiled for two months. It was like a jail because three sides were surrounded by river and blocked with steep mountains. The course of Seogang River flowed in a shape of a horse’s hoof like an alphabet U to surround all three sides in the north, east and south, with a steep cliff on the west. At Cheongryeongpo, there is a 600-year-old pine tree that is the tallest pine tree of Korea and also designated as the Natural Monument No. 349 under the name of Gwaneumsong.
The joys and sorrows of King Danjong still remains, including the Tower of Nostalgia made up of stones that King Danjong stacked while longing for Queen Jeongsun and the Nosandae, a rock on the cliff, where King Danjong stayed whenever he missed Hanyang with the palace.
