To pay tribute to the six martyred ministers
Changjeolseowon / Yuksinsa
(1063-1, Yeongheung-ri, Yeongwol-eup, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do)
There is Yuksinsa in the center at the back of the lecture hall building, which is where the ancestral tablets of the six martyred ministers (Sayuksin) and the six living ministers (Saengyuksin) who died while trying to help the restoration of King Danjong are kept.
The two-storey pavilion in front of Changjeolseowon is called Baegyeonru Pavilion. It means the maids who died along with King Danjong by falling off the Nakhwaam Rock of the Donggang River became cuckoos and flew to this pavilion to bow to the loyal subjects.
Changjeolseowon originally was called Changjeolsa Temple and located in Jangneung. However, since there was no case where the subject’s shrine was kept at the royal tomb, which why it was moved here. Also, the name was changed to Changjeolseowon.
Changjeolseowon is one of the 47 seonwons (lecture halls) across the nation that even survived during Heungseon Daewongun’s order to abolish all seowons.
